Case Study: Collaboration between Servers24.pl, Bioseco, and Dell
Using renewable energy sources is a key element of the energy transition, but it also comes with certain potential risks and environmental costs. Wind farms pose a threat to birds, so farm owners seek solutions to this problem. To protect the environment, they choose locations with minimal collision risk, carefully manage the surrounding crops, and use new technological tools such as the BPS Bioseco system, which optimally protects biodiversity while supporting energy producers.
The BPS Bioseco system effectively detects and identifies birds from distances of up to 700 meters. Detection modules equipped with cameras and specialized algorithms are installed on wind turbines to perform real-time monitoring. Using stereovision technology, the system estimates distance, flight height, and object size. Depending on the collision risk, it responds accordingly – using warnings or scaring off birds with light and sound, and if that fails, the turbine is shut down. The BPS Bioseco system consists of microcomputers mounted on wind turbines and powerful rack-mounted workstations that perform data analysis. Thanks to the use of Internet of Things (IoT), machine learning, and distributed computing technologies, the system processes over 11 GB of data per second. Currently, the Bioseco system is based on Dell Precision R7920 RACK XCTO workstations and Dell PowerEdge R350 servers, with hardware tailored and supplied by the Servers24.pl team.
